So what better way to celebrate your fun together and cool off from the heat than to enjoy a delicious cooling treat. Here are some delicious recipes for frozen, homemade treats you can give your dog this summer.

Pupsicles

Pupsicles are popsicles made specifically for your dog to enjoy. The best part is even though pupsicles are designed with dog nutrition in mind, some of these recipes you can enjoy too. Here is a roundup of our favorite, homemade pupsicle recipes for you and your dog to enjoy while you are chilling out from the sun.

Peanut Butter Pupsicles

What dog doesn’t love the taste of peanut butter? Plus peanut butter is a great source of protein and heart healthy fats. This simple recipe is for peanut butter pupsicles you both can enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 5 ounces plain yogurt
  • ½ banana
  • 2 TBSP peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)
  • 12 pretzel sticks

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor or a large bowl, puree the yogurt, banana, and peanut butter until smooth.
  2. Pour mixture into an ice cube tray.
  3. Cover the ice cube tray with tin foil.
  4. Insert a pretzel stick in the center of each ice cube compartment. This will act like the popsicle stick.
  5. Place ice cube tray until freezer for 1-2 hours until completely frozen.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Blueberry Pupsicles

Blueberries seems like an odd flavor choice for your dog. However, blueberries are rich in antioxidants, phytochemicals, and fiber and so they are incredibly healthy for your dog. These are another pupsicle recipe the two of you can share!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • ⅓ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Large pretzel rods

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor puree blueberries and yogurt. If you want a chunky style, just mix the blueberries into the yogurt in a bowl.
  2. Pour the mixture into a popsicle mold or waxed paper or plastic cups.
  3. Insert the pretzel rod into the center of the pupsicle.
  4. Freeze for 2-4 hours until completely frozen.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Brothsicles

These pupsicles are made from meat broths with a rawhide chew as a stick. They are a delicious cooling treat that will also keep your dog entertained for hours. Unfortunately, brothsicles are not great for people, so you might want to just give this one to your furbaby..

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of meat broth (chicken, beef, pork, or even fish will work)
  • 4 sweet potato chews or bully sticks
  • Chunks of meat (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Pour broth into popsicle molds or waxed paper, or plastic cups.
  2. If using chunks of meat, place into the molds.
  3. Place rawhide chew in the center of the mold/cups.
  4. Place mold/cups in freezer for 2-4 hours until frozen.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Puppy Ice Cream

Another great summer treat for your furbaby is puppy ice cream. Though they love it, people ice cream can be very hard for dogs to digest. These ice cream recipes are designed specifically for your dog’s sensitive digestion. The best part is that like the pupsicles, you can share some of these puppy ice creams with your dog.

Peanut Butter Bacon Ice Cream

Peanut butter bacon ice cream is an indulgent treat for your dog. It is so good, you will want to try it too.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup bacon, cooked and broken into crumbles
  • 1 cup peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt

Instructions:

  1. Place the peanut butter and yogurt into a food processor or blender blend until smooth
  2. Add the cumbles of bacon
  3. Put in a sealed container into the freerer
  4. Freeze for 2-4 hours until solid
  5. To serve, scoop the puppy ice cream the way you would any ice cream

Chicken Sorbet

For this recipe you will need an ice cream maker, but it is so worth it when your dog tastes the incredible flavor of chicken sorbet. You on the other hand, may not enjoy this one.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups deboned, cooked chicken, cubed
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • Baby food any flavor (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the chicken and half the chicken sock into a food processor. Add the stock slowly until you make a thick, smooth paste.
  2. Place chicken paste into ice cream maker and follow the directions to churn.
  3. Once frozen, prepare to serve.
  4. Top with the baby food if so desired.
  5. Enjoy!
  6. Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer.

Frozen Goodies

There are some other great frozen goodies you can make for your dog. These are less involved than pupsicles and puppy ice cream, so they are great for busy pup parents.

  • Frozen Biscuits: Take your dog’s favorite dog biscuits and freeze them in a container of water. Your dog will enjoy licking and chewing the water to get their biscuits.
  • Frozen Watermelon: Cube chunks of watermelon and freeze them. Frozen watermelon is a simple healthy treat to give your dog.
  • Frozen Toys: Place their favorite chew toys in a container, cover with broth, and freeze. Your dog will be entertained for hours licking the broth and finding their toys.
  • Frozen wet food: Take your dog’s favorite wet food and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Serve as a cool meal.
  • Fruit Ice Cubes: Take bananas, blueberries, or apple chunk and place them in an ice cube tray. Fill the tray with water and freeze. Your dogs will love crunching these down and finding the fruity center.

These are just some of the great frozen summer treats you can make your dog (and yourself) after enjoying the outdoors this summer. All of these treats are made with ingredients dogs can eat and even provide a little extra dog nutrition. Plus, most of these recipes are super simple.
